"Real World" Thoughts

As my internship with Scottish Parliament is winding to an end, I've been able to look back on and really appreciate the experience I've gotten out of the work I've done, the people I've met, and the events I've observed over the past eight weeks.  I've come to appreciate everything from the "mundane" tasks like stuffing envelopes (which I must say I'm pretty darn good at ;) to the exciting opportunities that only a job in Parliament can offer, like helping write a speech for one of my MSPs and watching him speak the words I wrote in the debating chamber on tv.

I really love the atmosphere, how the office can go from chill on Mondays and Fridays to bustling with activity on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  A big part of the job, I've found, is being able to get things done on the fly-most information on who will be participating in debates or ministerial questions is given a day before or the day of the event, making for some crazy time crunch situations.  As a notorious procrastinator, I secretly love this.  At the same time, everyone is comfortably easy going, making the office an inviting place that I always look forward to coming into.  I could attribute this to the friendly and hospitable nature of Scots, which I've found to be true in every part of this country, but I ultimately think that I just work with exceptionally great people, I've been so lucky.

I really couldn't have asked for a better winter quarter, and I'll be really sad to leave this all behind.  I've spent the month of March with my fellow interns going through the days saying "I'm going to miss this" after doing everything that has become our normal routine here.  All good things must come to an end, right?  Well, if so, I'm going to enjoy the next two weeks for all they're worth.
