I'll Take the High Road...

A weekend in the Highlands, what could be more Scottish? Not much. This 3-day trip was one of the highlights of my entire time here in europe. I think the pictures will speak for themselves. The above picture is of Donan Castle, a very famously photographed castle in Scotland that's been used in a lot of movies too (I'll let you figure out which ones, but more than one involve Sean Connery).

My flatmates Emily, Ian, and I decided to opt for a guided tour, and boy did we get our money's worth! We managed to see so much in three days, everything from the William Wallace Monument to the Isle of Skye to Loch Ness, and our tour guide, Alan, was fantastic. So funny yet very knowledgeable, he definitely knows his Highlands :) We were also touring with a great group of young people (sort of different than we were used to working in Parliament...ha), so the two nights we spent in a hostel on the shores of Loch Ness were very entertaining.

And now, let the pictures tell the story:

Freedom!!! The William Wallace Monument

Jealous?
"You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, you sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called "Arthur King," you and all your silly English K-nig-hts."

Hamish, the extremely handsome hairy coo :)

Ian gets dressed up like a real highlander!

Beautiful sunset near our hostel

Loch Garry (supposedly this loch looks like a map of Scotland from above)

Kilt Rock

Gorgeous view from a peak on the Isle of Skye (it was very windy!)

Loch Ness....can you spot Nessie?

Intern friends on Loch Ness

Finally, I'll end with a little video I took from the bus as we were officially entering 'The Highlands'-our tour guide Alan felt it appropriate to play some bagpiping music, and the song that played was 'Amazing Grace', the one I so often here my brother Brad playing! So here you go, bro:
